The AI Editor Mindset

Welcome to the Vidmoat Academy. This is not a standard tutorial site where we teach you which buttons to click. This is a masterclass in "Prompt Engineering for Video".

For the last thirty years, video editing has been a mechanical discipline. You learned where the Razor tool was, how to wrangle keyframes, and how to nest sequences. The cognitive load of editing was split 80% on operating the software and 20% on the actual creative storytelling.

Vidmoat inverts this ratio. By acting as your autonomous editing assistant, it takes over the mechanical execution. Your job is no longer to drag clips; your job is to direct. You must learn to articulate your creative vision with precision.

In these modules, our master instructors will break down the psychological and theoretical reasons behind professional editing techniques. We will explain exactly how difficult these techniques are to achieve manually in legacy software, and then hand you the exact natural language prompts needed to execute them in milliseconds on the Vidmoat timeline.

The manual way of editing involves "The Grind". You import footage, build proxies, painstakingly scrub through hours of audio looking for the right take, and manually slice away dead air.

When you want a complex effect, you often have to leave your editor, open a compositing software like After Effects, spend hours rotoscoping, render it out, and bring it back.

It is an incredibly fragmented, destructive, and slow process that kills creative flow states.

Vidmoat replaces the mechanical grind with conversational intelligence. You do not need to navigate complex menus, memorize keyboard shortcuts for the razor tool, or hunt for hidden panels.

Simply press Cmd/Ctrl + K from anywhere in the editor to summon the AI Console. Alternatively, if you want the AI to focus on a specific piece of media, select the clip directly on your timeline and click 'AI Prompt' in the action bar.

Paste any of the prompt options below into the console and hit Enter. Vidmoat's agentic engine will instantly read your timeline's state, perform all necessary slicing, keyframing, and effects compositing, and render the updated timeline for immediate playback.

If you prefer the manual approach or want absolute granular control, Vidmoat also includes a full traditional non-linear timeline.

To begin, navigate to your Media Bin on the left panel and drag your source clips directly onto the timeline tracks.

Use the Razor tool (shortcut 'C') to slice clips where you want to make a cut, and the Selection tool (shortcut 'V') to delete unwanted sections or move clips around.

For adjustments, select any clip on the timeline and open the Properties panel on the right. Here you have full control over Scale, Position, Rotation, and Opacity. You can keyframe any of these properties by clicking the stopwatch icon next to them.

Vidmoat's timeline supports infinite video and audio layers, allowing you to build highly complex, nested composites exactly like you would in legacy software.
