Descript alternatives.
Descript is the transcript editor. The alternatives win on timeline depth, clipping, captions or price, rarely on all four.
The main Descript alternatives are Vidmoat for agent-driven editing on a full timeline, CapCut for templates and mobile, VEED for browser editing with translation, and OpusClip or Submagic for short clips and captions. Descript remains the strongest pure transcript editor; its Hobbyist plan is $16 a month billed yearly.[1][2][3][4][5]

Where the others are genuinely better
- Descript's editor is the transcript, which is still the fastest way to edit a long conversation; it also offers voice cloning and Studio Sound.[14]
- Descript exports timelines to Premiere, Final Cut and others on Creator and up, useful when an editor finishes elsewhere.[5]
- OpusClip and Submagic produce more clips per minute of your time when clipping is the whole job.[3][4]
Who should pick which
You edit podcasts and interviews by reading them.[14]
You want silence and filler removal plus reframes, b-roll and a grade in one described pass.
How to do it in Vidmoat
- Create a free Vidmoat account and open the editor.
- Upload your footage (or start from a template or a storyboard).
- Type the edit into the AI console, for example: "remove the silences, add karaoke captions, reframe to 9:16".
- Read the credit quote and start the run. Every change lands on the timeline as an ordinary, undoable edit.
- Adjust anything by hand, then export.
Pricing
Vidmoat Hobby is free: 3 projects, 720p exports with a small watermark and 40 AI credits a month. Creator is $19 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, with 2160p (4K) exports, no watermark and 1,500 AI credits a month. Studio is $49 a month, or $39 a month billed yearly, with 6,000 AI credits a month, AI video generation and personal API keys.

What Vidmoat does not do
- Vidmoat does not make the transcript the main editing surface the way Descript does.
- Talking photos and lip sync are not generally available to Vidmoat accounts today.
- Fetching a video from a social link is not switched on today.
- Upscaling is not a general feature yet: it is limited to paid plans in the app.
