Splitting a clip
Put the playhead where you want the cut, select the clip, then use any of these: the Split button on the timeline toolbar, the B key, or the Split tool (the scissors) which cuts any clip you click on. On a phone the clip action bar has a Split button.
Trimming
Drag either end of a clip. On a touchscreen the trim handles only appear once the clip is selected, so tap it first. With Snap on, edges stick to the playhead, to zero, to markers and to other clips.
For exact work, open the Inspector's A/V tab and use the Trim section, which nudges by 1 second and 0.1 second in both directions across four operations: Roll edit at the start or end (moves the cut between two clips without changing the total length), Slip source (changes which part of the file plays without moving the clip) and Slide clip (moves the clip while a neighbour absorbs the change).
The keys that are actually bound
- Space play or pause. L forward, J backward, each press doubling speed up to 8x. K pause.
- Left and Right step one frame, with Shift they jump 5 seconds. Up and Down move between edit points. Home and End go to the start and the end.
- B split at the playhead. Delete or Backspace removes selected clips. M adds a marker, Shift+M removes one.
- Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z redo, Ctrl+A select all, Ctrl+C copy, Ctrl+V paste at the playhead, Ctrl+D duplicate, Ctrl+G group, Ctrl+Shift+G ungroup.
- S select tool, C split tool, H hand tool. Plus and minus zoom the timeline, and so does Ctrl with the scroll wheel.

Note that some tool buttons are labelled "Select (V)". The key that works is S.
Where the rest lives
The right-hand Inspector has six tabs: Motion, Color, FX, A/V, Overlay and Style.
- Volume, fades, pan, mute, equalizer, compressor and Duck under speech are all in A/V. Duck under speech is on an audio clip and keyframes its volume down wherever speech plays.
- Brightness through to lift, gamma, gain, HSL secondaries and a .cube LUT loader are in Color.
- Effects, filters, transitions, masks, green screen and background replacement are in FX.
- Fonts, fills, shadows and caption styling are in Style.
Masking is available on every plan. Green Screen and Remove BG are Pro, so on the free plan they carry a gold PRO badge and clicking one shows an upgrade banner instead of applying it. AI object removal is Studio only. The free plan does get a real set of effects, filters and transitions, including blur, glow, sharpen, vignette, film grain, and the fade, dissolve, wipe, slide and zoom transitions.
To grade the whole video at once, add an adjustment layer and set its look. Everything below it inherits.
Aspect ratio
Not in the export dialog. It is in Project Settings, reached from the three-dot More tools menu, which offers 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 4:3 and 21:9, plus a 1080p or 4K tier. The export mirrors whatever the canvas is.
