Connecting Claude, ChatGPT or another AI assistant

The server address, how the approval works, and where to disconnect it afterwards.

Vidmoat runs an MCP server, which lets an AI assistant drive the editor directly: list and create projects, import media, make edits and start renders. It is not plan-gated. Any signed-in account, including free Hobby, can connect an assistant.

The address

https://api.vidmoat.com/api/mcp

The setup page in the product is API & MCP in the dashboard, under the Build group. It has copy-paste guides for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code, with the exact fields each one asks for.

Claude and ChatGPT

Add Vidmoat as a custom connector, paste the server URL, and paste the App Client ID and Client Secret shown on that page. You are then sent to a Vidmoat page to sign in as yourself and approve.

Two kinds of credential, do not mix them

  • The App Client ID and Client Secret identify the Vidmoat app to Claude or ChatGPT. They are shared values and safe to paste into a connector form: you still sign in yourself in a browser, and nobody gains access to your account from them.
  • An API key, which starts with vmk_, is a personal secret that acts as you. Only paste it into tools you run yourself, such as Claude Code or Cursor. Never share it.

Read the approval screen

It names the app asking and tells you where your authorization code will be sent. That address is the one thing worth checking. If you did not start this from software you recognise, stop there. Most MCP clients register themselves and have not been reviewed by us, and the screen says so.

Most connectors ask for full account access, which means reading and changing your projects and media, starting renders, and using AI features that spend your credits. The button says so out loud.

Revoking

This is the part people get wrong. Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients register themselves and do not appear on the connected apps page. Disconnect those from inside the assistant itself.

The connected apps page lists registered Vidmoat apps you have signed into, and revoking there is immediate. API keys are revoked on the API & MCP page, and revoking one stops it instantly.

What an assistant runs into

It inherits your plan exactly. Its renders carry your watermark if you are on the free plan, its stock searches refuse if you are on Hobby, and its AI actions spend your credits from your balance. There is no separate agent allowance.

Did that not cover it?

Send us a ticket and we will answer. If you are signed in it arrives with your plan and any recent errors attached, so you do not have to describe them.
